Michael Carney, President of Behnke Inc. hiked to Mount Everest Base Camp with his two daughters, two nieces and his brother.
The views were scenic and majestic but it was a very challenging and hard hike.
The entire region is hampered by transportation. There are no roads, just hiking trails, in Northern Nepal and all materials must be moved by:
– Helicopter (very expensive and weight limits are an issue)
– Yak (only can carry 100-150lbs)
– Horse
– Porter ( I saw a porter carrying 180lbs)
So very small loads compared with the Behnke trucks and very costly on a per pound basis.
Note: This picture was taken at base camp, 3 days before the disastrous avalanche. The ice falls are in the background where the avalanche occurred.
Proud of you Mike! You are one determined and focused fellow!
