My brother John has a machine that can simulate high altitude. He has been sleeping in a tent with it every night to get acclimated to the less oxygen. He can also use it on his treadmill to simulate hiking in high altitude. So I am visiting my brother this weekend and he hooked me up the machine set at 18,000 feet. This is the level for base camp so we will be working up from 8,000 feet over a period of 12 days.
So for this workout I did 5 minutes on the machine and 5 minutes off. I did that for 60 minutes. I survived but my body responded differently at 18,000 feet for sure.
Altitude is one of those unknowns as to how it affects you individually. This was but a small test but I am ready to go.
