Transatlantic – Wednesday April 24

So busy on the ship in the morning.  I feel that breakfast is the most important meal and the Dutch must feel that too.  Everyone is out for breakfast.  It is so important to start off your day with food, especially protein to get your body going and your metabolism started.

I still had to wait longer for the elevators and the engineer in me wanted to time the wait, time the travel time and then figure out how many times the guests had to use the elevators to make the math work out….. maybe tomorrow if I am really bored.

Nana talked me into coming to bridge (party bridge with whoever shows up) today.  I was reluctant but she has a way at convincing me that she really wanted me.  This afternoon was crazy though.  You have to understand about your Nana.  She is so much a people person.  She went early to make sure that the tables were set up and people felt wanted.  As people came in she greeted them and worked to make them feel wanted.  We have several bridge players this afternoon that are the opposite, it is about them and their needs.  Your Nana is so different.  Sometimes though I get sucked into that vortex and it can be challenging for me.  Today was one of those days.  Nana is so good at bridge and she can play at all levels.  I don’t play that often and sometimes I get confused with the bidding and playing.  The more distractions I have the worse this gets.  I had a lot of distractions today.  I endeavored to play to the end to support Nana but it was a challenge.  After we got back to our room, Nana then took a nap so it was exhausting for her too.

Back to some semblance of normal at the bars.  Not sure if the guest have changed their routine or the Holland American people have adapted to the change.  It is probably like a half time adjustment for the basketball coach, you figure out what works and then make it happen.  Life is so much like this.  There is constant change and while we all don’t like change, we have to learn to adapt or the change will overwhelm us.

I worked on some more train programs today.  I worked primarily on the Eperthener outdoor track programs for the layout in Battle Creek Michigan.  Since I will be spending so much time in Battle Creek this spring and summer I wanted to get this train up and running. I still have a lot of wiring to do before I can use the programs but the wiring will need to be done in Battle Creek.

We had a very nice dinner at the sea restaurant tonight. It was great, the food here has just been excellent.

Tomorrow is Madeira, we can’t wait.

    Take care,
