Arlie Beach Queensland 2/16/2025

Today we stopped at Arlie Beach.

Airlie Beach, located in Queensland, is a vibrant coastal town known for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning natural beauty. Here are some interesting facts about Airlie Beach:

1. Gateway to the Whitsundays: Airlie Beach is the main gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, a group of 74 tropical islands famous for their white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs, including the world-renowned Whitehaven Beach.

2. Great Barrier Reef Access: It serves as a popular starting point for trips to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, offering snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing adventures.

3. Airlie Beach Lagoon: In the heart of town, the Airlie Beach Lagoon provides a safe, stinger-free swimming area with stunning ocean views, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

4. Conway National Park: Just outside Airlie Beach, Conway National Park offers lush rainforests, scenic lookouts, and walking trails with panoramic views of the Whitsundays.

So today we took the Segway Adventure.  There was just 4 of us and our guide but it was great. Sightseeing on two wheels is a fun way to explore the beautiful beaches, dramatic coastline and incredible scenery of Whitsunday Island. We Followed our guide along Bicentennial Boardwalk, built in 1988 to commemorate the arrival of the first fleet of British convict ships in 1788. Just a little over two miles long, the boardwalk meanders between the lagoon in Airlie Beach and the parklands at Cannonvale Beach. We passed Shingley Beach’s shade trees, manicured lawns and picnic areas. It was a great day.

Back to ship on a high speed catamaran that was used to shuttle passengers back and forth.

Tonight we had a shrimp barbie party.  Part barbecue and part Barbie theme.  We partied with the captain and some of the senior staff.  Nana and Papa were a hit with their matching outfits !

Tomorrow we have another sea day….. which keeps us busy, our typical sea day is basketball, breakfast, finish my blog, working on train programming for Papa, then bridge lessons, lunch, Nana has Ukulele practice, then duplicate bridge, dancing in the Ocean Bar, dinner, classic trio concert (violin, cellist and piano), and then the night show. Not even time for a nap.

The next stop is Cairns.  We have a train ride planned …. Kuranda Scenic Railway, I can’t wait.
